Diary of Guru Maharaja – Bangladesh, Haridaspur visit 23-28th August

Dear devotees,

Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. All
glories to Guru Maharaja.

Guru maharaja left Mayapura on 23rd to Bangladesh. As he was leaving
Mayapura many devotees gathered at his residence to see him. After his
breakfast he gave darshan and maha to everyone. Before he got into his car,
he took darshan of Srila Prabhupada and Sri Sri Radha Madhava and Their Asta
Sakhis, Sri Sri Prahlad Narasimhadeva and Sri Sri Panca Tattva deities.
This is his first time visit to Bangladesh after the stroke. Many thousands
of devotees were eagerly waiting to see him. HH Bhakti Purushottam Maharaja
commented, “As Guru Maharaja is not traveling to different places as he used
to do before so the devotees are like fish out of water deprived of Guru
Maharaja’s association.” Guru maharaja celebrated Balarama Purnima
(appearance day of Lord Balarama) with Bangladesh devotees.

22 Aug 2010 – Diary of GM

Devotees from Krishnakatha Desh, Singapore, Bangalore, Guwahati and Orissa
have come to take diksa from Guru Maharaja. Guru Maharaja met the candidates
yesterday night at quarters in the lotus building rooftop after returning
from Jhulan yatra. He was checking the candidates asking them to raise their
hands if they are following regulative principles, if they are committed to
chant 16 rounds and if they are willing to assist Guru Maharaja in
fulfilling Srila Prabhupada’s mission. Guru Maharaja said that due to stroke
his right part of the body is not fully functioning. He was asking in spite
of this situation if the candidates were willing to take diksa to which all
the candidates immediately responded that they want to take diksa from him.

Few of the candidates were unable to tell the basic mantras and since they
are illiterate they didn’t know the basic philosophy. Guru Maharaja said
that it is the responsible of the recommending authorities to train them
through their congregation members. They should prepare the candidates using
the check list which is already available for everyone and train them well
ahead. He doesnt want that the candidates come all the way and they will get
rejected and they start crying over here.

The yajna arrangement has been made in the Panca Tattva temple. HG Jananivas
Prabhu is giving a speech regarding the importance of Vaisnava initiation
and the offenses of the Holy Names that we need to avoid. HG Bhadra Caru
Prabhu is translating in Bengali. He is the today’s priest as well for the
initiation ceremony.

Around 12.30 noon Guru Maharaja came to the Panca Tattva temple after his
pool therapy. He had darsan of the Deities and gave a small speech to the
initiation candidates. Guru Maharaja then gave initiation to the devotees.

19 Aug 2010 – Diary of GM

Dear devotees,

Hare Krsna. Please accept my most humble obeisances. All glories to Srila
Prabhupada.

Tomorrow is the beginning of the auspicious Jhulan Yatra and today is the
Adhivas (invoking the auspiciousness for tomorrows’ festival). The ceremony
took place in the temple. Guru Maharaja arrived to the temple at 7:40 pm and
joined the head pujaris, Jananivasa prabhu and Pankajanghri prabhu. The
ceremony had already begun. Jananivasa prabhu and Pankajanghri prabhu were
offering different items to the utsava (festival) deities on the altar for
invoking the auspiciousness. Guru maharaja offered lamp and few other items.
After adhivas Guru Maharaja gave class in the temple. Starting from tomorrow
which is Ekadasi Day until Balaram Purnima, for five days the festival
deities of Radha Madhava will be taken to gurukula campus (near goshalla)
where the Jhulan Yatra festival will be celebrated grandly. Every year the
Mayapur youth and Gurukula students collect the funds and organize this
festival. It is one of the beautiful festivals in Mayapur. Almost everyone
looks forward for it.

Jhulan yatra ki jai!!!

Wish you all a happy Jhulan Yatra!!!

Your humble servants,

Vaikunthapati Das and Ratnavali dd

18 Aug 2010 – Vidyaramba (first writing ceremony)

After gurupuja, Guru Maharaja did vidyaramba (first writing ceremony) for two
kids. One small boy and another little girl. The boy kept crying and didn’t
want to hold the chalk. As the girl was little grown she was quiet and
cooperative. Guru Maharaja held her hand and made her to write Hare Krsna
mantra with a small piece of wood imprinting the letters in the turmeric powder
on a plate. Haribol!

16 Aug 2010 – Diary of GM

Dear Devotees,

Hare Krsna. Please accept my most humble obeisances. All glories to Srila
Prabhupada. All glories to Srila Gurudeva.

On 14th August, there was a wedding of a couple in Jagannath Mandir,
Rajapur. Bridegroom was Guru Maharaja’s disciple and bride was Bhakti Caru
Maharaja’s disciple. The couple had come earlier to invite Guru Maharaja for
the wedding and to get his blessings. At that time, Guru Maharaja mentioned
to the Bridegroom, now that he is marrying the disciple of Bhakti Caru
Maharaja, he should give respect to him and consider him as his siksa guru.
Sometimes he could come and serve Guru Maharaja and sometimes he should
serve Bhakti Caru Maharaja.

14 Aug 2010 – Diary of Guru Maharaja

Dear Devotees,

Hare Krsna. Please accept my most humble obeisances. All glories to Srila
Prabhupada. All glories to Srila Gurudeva.

Guru Maharaja writes:

I had a fever due to urinary infection in Mayapur I moved to Kolkatta as was
advised by the doctors because there are not many facilities available in
Mayapur. In Kolkatta I was treated at the Belle vue hospital which is owned
by the Birla group of houses a big business house in india who are
considered to be vegetarian and pious people.  I went to visit the Birla’s
house long time ago with Srila Prabhupada. When I arrived at the hospital
the CEO of the hospital and the head patron came in person to escort me to
the room. The doctors there had given me VIP treatment as some of them know
me from earlier. I took prasadam cooked in the temple even though it was a
vegetarian hospital I would rather prefer to stay in the temple than in the
hospital. I was discharged on the 5th of August and am now back in Mayapur.
I am a little weak. It will take some weeks to catch up to where I was.

I am doing either pool or Gym therapy every day. At the present time we are
having Mayapur GBC meetings which I am attending 3-4 hours a day.

I hope this finds you healthy & happy,

Your well-wisher always,

Jayapataka Swami
