Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 7. Chapter 8. Text 17 Sri Mayapur Dham, India

Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya!!

satyaḿ vidhātuḿ nija-bhṛtya-bhāṣitaḿ

vyāptiḿ ca bhūteṣv akhileṣu cātmanaḥ

adṛśyatātyadbhuta-rūpam udvahan

stambhe sabhāyāḿ na mṛgaḿ na mānuṣam

TRANSLATION:

To prove that the statement of His servant Prahlāda Mahārāja was substantial — in other words, to

prove that the Supreme Lord is present everywhere, even within the pillar of an assembly hall — the

Supreme Personality of Godhead, Hari, exhibited a wonderful form never before seen. The form was

neither that of a man nor that of a lion. Thus the Lord appeared in His wonderful form in the assembly

hall.

PURPORT:

When Hiraṇyakaśipu asked Prahlāda Mahārāja, “Where is your Lord? Is He present in this pillar?”

Prahlāda Mahārāja fearlessly replied, “Yes, my Lord is present everywhere.” Therefore, to convince

Hiraṇyakaśipu that the statement of Prahlāda Mahārāja was unmistakably true, the Lord appeared

from the pillar. The Lord appeared as half lion and half man so that Hiraṇyakaśipu could not understand

whether the great giant was a lion or a human being. To substantiate Prahlāda’s statement, the Lord

proved that His devotee, as declared in Bhagavad-gītā, is never vanquished (kaunteya pratijānīhi na me

bhaktaḥ praṇaśyati). Prahlāda Mahārāja’s demoniac father had repeatedly threatened to kill Prahlāda,

but Prahlāda was confident that he could not be killed, since he was protected by the Supreme Lord. By

appearing from the pillar, the Lord encouraged His devotee, saying in effect, “Don’t worry. I am present

here.” By manifesting His form as Nṛsiḿhadeva, the Lord also preserved the truth of Lord Brahmā’s

promise that Hiraṇyakaśipu was not to be killed by any animal or any man. The Lord appeared in a form

that could not be said to be fully a man or a lion.

Hari Om tat sat!

So,Hiranyakashipu tried every way to kill Prahlad with his assistants.Now he thought he would greatly

kill him himself.He was so angry,because he kept telling about another God,someone more powerful

than him.But,he though he was the most powerful person in the universe!!.

But,somehow Prahlad kept talking about someone more powerful ,so called God.He could get

him!!(8.39 you tube lecture).He was the symbol of Atheism.Couldnot tolerate the idea of someone

absolute,someone greater than him.

Although he got his power,specially from Lord Brahma.So,obviously Brahma was more powerful than

him.Still,somehow he thought,he was the most powerful and he really couldn’t tolerate his son kept

talking about,Visnu.

As Visnu had killed his brother,Hiranyaksha.So ,he was sworn enemy of Lord Visnu and when

Prahlad was in his school.At that time,teachers had called Hiranyakashipu ,someway your son has

learnt,devotional service.

So he placed his soldiers around the school.”Shoot at sight any vaishnava kill him. They dare to enter

my school!!”.Everyone ,told Atheism was thought (11.17) .But at first they didn’t understand ,who was

Prahlad himself?.He had been thought by Narada Muni.

While he was in the womb of his mother.So Prahlad he was a Mahabhagavat.Sometimes he was

chanting so ecstatically that he would dance in ecstasy.His drive (11.58) was like a little Batman,so

ecstatic chanting :

HARE KRISHNA HARE KRISHNA KRISHNA KRISHNA HARE HARE

HARE RAMA HARE RAMA RAMA RAMA HARE HARE!

And he taught all the young children to chant Hare Krsna & to engage in devotional service.So,he

was preaching at the age of 6.That means that,your children those who are Grihastas,they can also

be trained to teach, preach to their friends13.21, if they don’t preach to their friends .The friends will

preach to them.

So they have,to be very strong to survive in a school ,especially kids in a nondevotee school.Some of the

parents .While we have schools here ,they thought we will send our kids to the Bhakti Vinod School at

the Yogapeet.

But then ,although the schools are Bhakti Vinod ,actually it teaches us? 14.05 to 14.08 .Some of the

teachers were atheists.Teachers made fun why wear tilak? Why wear neck beads to school?14.27 to

14.29.

So that was the Bhakti Vinod school.What to speak of ordinary schools?So ,we are very happy that now

we have 3 schools & I don’t think in any school, none of the teachers would make fun ,if the kids wear

tilak or neck beads.

So,Prahlad he was going to a Atheist school.But,he was preaching.So,when his father realized,it was

Prahlad himself ,he was so called wiseoned by Vaisnava ideas,then he tried in so many ways to kill him.

Finally ,he thought I will do it myself.So,he asked some :”If your God ,is in this pillar?is he here?.He was

so angry,he hit the pillar with his fist and out came Narsimhadev himself ,a sun (16.07) so aggressive ,a

soul which filled the whole universe.

A soul whose teeth are so powerful, had never been heard before.Demons became fearful.Ever heard

this song ? which Krsna says in Bhagavad Gita:10th chapter in ether I am the sound.

So he had Narsimhadev made this sun16.41,everyone was looking,then he appeared out of the

pillar.So,it is said here,to make his servant,a devotee words true,he came out from the pillar.

It says in the ,Shastra that :Krsna has nothing,to do he likes to always take care of his devotees.Thats

his preoccupation.So,devotee wants to serve Krsna,and Krsna wants to take care of his devotees.

Someone ,was especially reading to me,how anyone who even worships Narsimhadev,Narsimhadev

reciprocates and protects him.Protects the devotee.So,Narsimhadev is the form of,protection for his

devotees.

We were attacked several times ,by armed Dacoits.Dacoits are group of armed robbers.They use some

home made shotguns and bombs.So ,they broke into our deity room,and stole Radharani,stole the small

deities of Radha & Krsna.

That Prabhupad,worshipped as a child.We got Radharani back,but we never got the small deities

back.Then,we installed Narsimhadev,and since then there are no attacks.This Narsimhadev ,simply he

refrained ,he didn’t want to do it 20.09.

Telling I should obtain my Guru’s permission?Then he promptly and timely met his Guru,and the Guru

said well because they are Krsna devotees,because they are situated in the Dham,so they can have

Narsimhadev in this ferocious form.

So then he agreed ,making Narsimhadev.Many things happened,but,to make a long story short,he made

the diety but he wasn’t Ritvik ?21.22.Then, was lightning storm in the whole store ,shelf where he had

carved Narsimhadev.went down Narsimhadev was unearthed.

Many said :Please take him away!take him away!.So,this Narsimhadev,is generally placed at the

entrance of Narsimha temple.He is Sthanu Narsimha.He is coming out from the pillar.You need any help

22.31he is giving out from the pillar.

So,he is in that mood ,Where is the Demon? Where is the demon?.His hands looking,who dare to molest

my child?my devotee?Where is the demon?Ugra Narsimha libearated Hiranyakashipu.This is more

Ugra,Ugra.More ferocious than any other form.

So one has to be very careful,to worship him in this form.Thats why the sophie23.31 he wanted to check

can you worship in this form?if he can make this form as a diety?I don’t think anywhere in India you will

see such a form.

Within the Ugra 1000 shilas …brought over here,24.41? ,by the Bihar border.There one Pujari

said:”Plaese take this Ugra Narsimha shila,we are Grihasta pujaris ,we may make some mistake and it is

Ugra Narsimha ,better it is worshiped by Brahmacharis.

So there is Sthana Narsimha.I also meditated a lot on this deity ,when Murari Gupta was repeating the

1000 names of Lord Visnu.He came to the Name of Narsimhadev.At that time Lord Caitanya picked the

stick and ran out of the street and there he said:”Where are the demons?where are the demons ? He

got into the mood of a terminator.

People saw his angry mood and they ran.So then,Lord Chaitanya calmed down and restored his peaceful

mood,I frightened all those people.All those people were liberated by seeing the ecstatic mood .So

Lord Caitanya was also in the mood of Sthanu Narsimha.”Where are the demons?where are the

demons?”

So,when you see this diety you can also remember,the pastime of Lord Gauranga and Murari Gupta.In

the Padma Purana,they are 2 other descriptions of other ,comings of Narsimhadev.It seems,Lord

Narsimhadev,he comes when 12 days of Brahma & he manifests his pastimes.

So,some devotee comes us Hiranyakashipu.In that time,one Hiranyakashipu worships Lord Shiva and he

has similar part.This Hiranyakashipu he has little boon,he cannot be killed in,or out.

So Lord Narsimhadev,kill him in the doorway, neither in or out.But,in this previous Lila, Hiranyakashipu

he didn’t ask,for protection from IN or Out. Other things, no man or animal that was the same.So,in that

pastime,ceratin servants throw weapons on Prahlad.

So,all the weapons they threw sort of “AHHCHH!!”,they stuck him with a sword,the weapons turned to

blue lotus,Neel Padma. So wherever they hit arrows,lances ,swords all turned to Blue Lotus.Was so

beautiful.Covered by Blue lotuses.

So, at the end,he said atleast accept Shiva as the Supreme Godhead.He said : No!only,Visnu is

Supreme!!.Even Shiva is his devotee.So ,then he said :”OK”.I give you 6 oclock ,to get luckier,let your

God show up!!If he shows up ,we will see.

Otherwise at 6” I will Kill you”….said :So Hiranyakashipu built a big stadium, a huge,like a 100 and 50

miles long.50 miles wide,all air conditioned.Anyone who went there noticed these,buffeys on the side

eat whatever you want and everyone worships Hiranyakashipu. Hiranyakashipu ki Jai!!

Hiranyakashipu kirtans and he sitting on the throne,visible for a long way ,heralds you.Jai

Hiranyakashipu!!. Then it says: Narsmhadev in Ram Lila he came flying in ,first to the surrounding town

and then he saw this,Half man ,half lion ,whats this ? flew into the stadium like,and saw no beaks 31.56

allowed ,he saw this.

So he flew to the jets ,the airplanes the source of Airplanes 32.15.So they flew these Airplanes right on

Narsimhadev’s head.Like those insect flies .Airplane turned into ashes.So,then Hiranyakashipu had a

whole bunch of missiles.So one after another he sent out missiles.But ,Lord Narsimhadev ,caught the

missile threw down, missile into ashes .

So ,somehow all his main Airplanes ,his missiles finished.So,then when Narsimhadev was approaching,

he taught,OK! I will fight him myself.No one can stand up to me!!I defeated Indra,I defeated

everybody,I will defeat this beast.

Then he came in the Air and was fighting with Lord Narsimhadev.So,Narsimhadev cant kill him either

day or night,he waited till 6 .So he spent time fighting , something just like the cat had the mouse ,let

the mouse go.Catch him and let it go again.

So.like that Narsimhadev ,would let loose,Hiranyakashipu and then drag him to the fight again.So,the

end at Twilight sharp,he sits at Hiranyakashipu’s throne and bifurcates him.So ,all the devas saw and

offered their,worship to Narsimhadev,but they cant really approach him.So they sent Prahlad first.In

this pastime,lastly she (Lakshmidevi) is somehow able to approach Narsimhadev,and she sits on his lap.

So,then Lord Brahma,he somehow communicates with her,it is to intense 35.30.Its very thinning,burning

effulgence ,so she goes through something here and switches it,Cooling effulgence.Warm Like

effulgence.

The Lord has different kinds of effulgence.Burning,cooling.We all are under the cooling effulgence of

the Lord Narsimhadev and the demons want to stop Krsna conscious movement.They feel the Burning

effulgence.

So.like that Narsimhadev is a very special form of Lord Krsna.That he protects his devotees.in this

pastime.

There was a fisherman ,who found a long headed ,he thought it was a Ghost.In his neck 36.58.He

touched the Ghost,he started to feel hatred 37.10 towards Ghost.Lord Caitanya,could feel ecstacy,in the

love for of Krsna ,so then the Ghost, took him over ,he started to chant Narsimha prayers.

While chanting his ecstasy increased, the ghost who had taken over was immune to this Narsimha

mantra.So,Swaroop Damodar when he saw this, a person chanting “Haribol,Haribol,Haribol” knew

that he wasn’t feeling,it is not the symptom of someone who Is hosting on the names of Hari.Then he

said,”you are chanting the Narsimha Mantra, he felt ecstasy.So,Swaroop Damodar knew that he had

touched Lord Caitanya.

So ,he said where is this? But the guy was ecstacy and said “he couldn’t sleep ,I know how to extorcise

ghosts ,he slapped him 3times and said “ OK!Ghost is out calm down”.So,when they called Lord

Caitanya ,he was ecstatic ,Then the started to , they took him off ,and put him on some cloth.

And they started to chant, HARE KRISHNA HARE KRISHNA KRISHNA KRISHNA HARE HARE

HARE RAMA HARE RAMA RAMA RAMA HARE HARE!

So then Lord Caitanya ,he came back to bounce,all came back.So,Lord Caitanya manifested the Sarva

moods,6 handed forms a number of times.One time ,I read how 2 hands were Narsimhadev’s ,2 were

Krsna’s,2 were Lord Caitanya’s .

Other times it was Ram ,Krsna,and LORD Caitanya,One time,Narsimhadeva.So Narsimhadev is also very

much,is connected in Lord Caitanya’s pastime.So,today is the day that Narsimhadev,he came out from

the front of pillar and saved Prahlad.

So Narsimhadev he is very merciful,but devotees like Bhakti Vinod Thakur he was,singing and praying to

Lord Narsimhadev,to remove our obstacles,to worship Pancha tatva ,Radha Madhav.Also,he prayed to

Lord Narsimhadev,to give us Love of Krsna.So,now I think Bhanu Swami is supposed to speak,

Banu Swami is adivesh!(42.21 ) ,AS Lord Jagannath has adivesha of Narsimhadev.This is the Vaisakha

month,very very dear to Lord Krsna.and today is one of the holiest day of the month.Pray to Lord

Narsimhadev’s.
